PCI Ethernet Controller
I have a Compaq Presario 5716 running Windows ME. I am trying to hook up a Linksys Router but my PCI Ethernet Controller says the drivers for this device are not installed. I tried the above link but no luck. When setting up router get message "unable to connect to router. Make sure router is connected to PC." Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks. Linksys not the problem. The PCI Ethernet Controller on CPU is problem.

The PCI Ethernet Controller is the network card that is fitted inside your PC. However, there are hundreds (maybe thousands) of different makes and models of network card so we need to try to determine which one you have.
Do you have any documentation that came with the PC that tells you what network card is installed inside your PC? If not, we might be able to get the answer if you run the D-A-L.Com Online Hardware Scan. There's a link to this in my signature below. Run it, copy the log file and paste it as a reply to this message. Then we'll see if we can deduce anything from it.

Ah, hold on - sorry, I didn't read that properly. I see you're running a Presario laptop so, as it is reported as a PCI ethernet controller rather than a PCMCIA ethernet controller, it must be "on-board", i.e. built into the laptop motherboard. So it's probably only one of a few kinds.
Let me have a little look around the Internet Superhighway and see what I can find out

Erm, I'm confused. I thought Presario systems were only laptops but it seems there are also desktop Presario models as well
Try these drivers and see if they help:
ftp://ftp.compaq.com/pub/softpaq/sp1...00/sp11378.exe
or
ftp://ftp.compaq.com/pub/softpaq/sp1...00/sp15540.exe
or
ftp://ftp.compaq.com/pub/softpaq/sp1...00/sp10951.exe
They are all quoted as Windows 95/98 drivers but there are no separate downloads for the Windows ME drivers so these probably work on your version.

I have a Diamond Multimedia Systems Supra 2690. This device is a combo card. It features a net adapter and a modem. I got from FCC that it is a 1M Home PNA/10 Base-T Ethernet Adapter. Thanks for other links but they did not work.

Those drivers are proving rather hard to find on the Internet. Seems to have been complicated by the fact that Diamond got bought out by S3 in 2000, who then went bust in 2003. There is still a web site running for downloads - they make you register and then send you an email with a link to http://www.diamondmm.com/oldDRIVERS....657374&ml=6E6F. Unfortunately, although there are drivers for dozens of different models there, they aren't listing a 2690 model
Have you got any CDs that came with the laptop? You might be able to find the drivers on those.

Yes I found that out. I believe I am going to quit my search and by a new ethernet card. I am sorry for the exhaustive but futile search. However, thank you very much for your assistance.
