my monitor only has 2 and 16 in the settings how can i get it to 256 like most monitors have if i need to download anything please give me the site to go to

Download Aida32 from my signature, install and run it. When its running click on computer/summary and it will tell you what is listed under display. Post back what it says and we'll help you find the right drivers.

I am running Windows ME and when I installed the new operating system I only have 16 colors available. My Adapter/Driver Information is as follows: Standard PCI Graphisc Card (VGA); Software version 4.0. I was unable to find the model number when I opened the back of the CPU. I have tried about 10 different drivers from driverguide.com. I am about a few hours from buying a new graphics card. Please HELP!!!

What's the make and model of your computer? Is the video adapter onboard or a pci card?

Make is a Compaq, Model #5716. How would i know if its onboard or a pci card? I believe it is a card because it seems to be attached to the motherboard and the monitor attaches to the card. I think.

The OS will always default to a few colours when you first install it, this is because there are so many card makers out there making so many different cards that the OS would have to be a huge size to attempt to cover them all, and the OS would need upgrading everyday to cover new cards so the OS uses low settings so it can hook into every card.

Now the clever bits on the cards and the really powerfull functions are covered by the card makers drivers. The drivers sit between the physical card and the OS.

It is essential that you get the correct drivers for the card installed in your PC and for the OS (ME in your case) that you are using.

the 5716 presario comes with an onboard 8Mb graphics capability and you can get the drivers from:
