    Sygate Personal Firewall

    Hey,

Ive been having some problems lately with sygate. For some reason on the startup listing under msconfig ive been getting 2 smcservice runs and not just 1.... is that supposed to be like that? here's what im getting.

SmcService (Registry Machine Run) C:\PROGRA~\SYGATE\SPF\SMC.EXE -startgui

    and

SmcService (Registry Machine Service) C:\PROGRAM FILES\SYGATE\SPF\SMC.EXE

which one is supposed to be there and which one isnt? because i use the ctrl+alt+del and see that SMC is not responding even after a clean reboot.

ive already did a clean reinstall and just wonderin if anyone else had any other suggestions.

I use Sygate PF on Windows XP, and there are two entries for SMC.EXE - One starts the 'GUI' or Graphical User Interface (SMC.EXE -startgui), and the other actually runs the firewall monitoring and blocking system. So I would say you've nothing to worry about. That fact that the task manager says something is 'not responding' simply means that application is taking longer to respond (ie it's busy) than Windows was expecting. Doesn't always mean the program has frozen. Most firewalls will resist being closed like this anyway, for obvious reasons.
