    Bullet point default in Word

Can anyone help with a regular source of irritation please?

When I add a bullet point to a Word doc, the bullet is always set at an indented position. Most of the bullets I use are in line with the left hand margin and I'd like to re-set the default in the.dot master so they always appear at that point.

Can anyone tell me how to do this please?

    Thanks,

    Paul

It may depend on what version of Word you are running but, assuming that it's Word 2000 (because that's all that I've got to look at!), these instructions may help:

    Open a new blank document.
Apply a new 'Normal' font style if you want to.
Change the page setup (i.e. margins) to a new default if you want to.

Go to Format > Bullets and Numbering.
    Select your bullet style.
    Click the Customize button.
    Set your indent position.
    Click OK.

A bullet will appear on the page and, depending on what you set the indent to, it might have tabbed across the page a little. Press the backspace key twice to undo this. The indent position will still be remembered as the default value for any new bullets.

Go to File > Save As.
Select 'Document Template (*.DOT)' as the file type. This should change the directory to Word's template folder.
Save the blank document as Normal.DOT.

Close Word and restart it. Voila. Job done.

Please let us know if that's what you were looking for
