Hello Friends,
I want to get a new gaming computer. Something with SLI and good video cards. My problem is decideing between Xp and Vista... I hear Xp is better for gaming. What does everyone suggest?
Thanks,
James
wondering why window 7 is not in your list. windows xp is good but microsoft is stopping its support and 7 is today and the future.
hope it helps.
XP has an older version of Directx than Vista & 7. You can't take advantage of the improvements they have made if you are using XP therefore for newer games 7 would probably be best. XP in general is outdated.
1) vista is the future so vista will give u an extended life span than purchasing xp now.
xp 64 is faster than vista 64, and both are much faster than their 32 bit counterparts. but comprehend 2 things.
2) very small over the counter application is compatible with either xp 64 or vista 64. i use both versions of the 64, and im telling u, first hand, other than for Microsoft application no over the counter application works on either version of 64, not even printers unless u need to spend over a grand for a printer. XP 64 and vista 64 r primarily for proprietary application written specifically for a 64 bit operating process such as huge information bases and engineering programs. because vista has pushed current hardware to its limit application is beginning to be written specifically for it, but will be at least another year before it will be worth purchasing a computer with vista 64. i have it because I'm a computer consultant and i have several computes in my home in a domain network, but otherwise i wouldn't use either version of 64.
you are better off getting vista home premium 32 bit with quad core processor, 4 gigs of ram also a nice video card. but buy a computer that will accept over 4 gis of ram so in future when vista 64 becomes practical you are able to upgrade to vista 64 and upgrade ram.
ps: gregory_dittman only vista basic 64 is artificially limited to 8 gigs of ram the other vista 64's and xp 64 goes to a maximum of either 128 or 256 gigs of ram i forgot which. any 64 bit operating process does not won't and rarely will run 32 bit application or drivers, the reverse isn't true though, xp 32 bit and vista 32 will run 64 bit application. so u cant just buy vista 64 and say u will run it in 32 bit mode, it won't work, if you are doing that then u don't have vista 64 u have vista 32
Wrong!!! The 64 bit versions of any OS use memory different than 32 bit versions so applications that are only 64 bit will only run on a 64 bit platform. Also, I've used XP 64 bit and it is just about useless. Vista as well as 7 64 bit are more compatible than Xp 64-bit.
