Anyone know of a totally free registry cleaner?

I run scans on my pc and it always says I have over 500 registry errors. I download free software to fix my registry but it will only correct a few errors and wants me to buy the software to fix the rest. Does anyone know of a totally free registry cleaner that will fix all my errors for free? Thanks..........

(I have moved you post to Other Software because this is not an Internet issue.)

This is a VERY controversial subject with two great camps on both sides. Side 1 says Registry Cleaners are too dangerous, not needed, and DON'T boost performance. Side 2 says regular cleaning with a "good" cleaner will keep your computer running smoothly. Oh, there's a 3rd camp - the cleaner makers that promise to make your computer run better than ever.

My biggest concern is many cleaners report hundreds of errors, but they are not "errors" at all! In most cases, they are just "left over" entries from old or updated programs that do absolutely no harm for being there. But these "aggressive" cleaners report and remove them anyway and way too often they remove necessary entries too - and end up breaking Windows or programs you don't want broken.

My general opinion about Registry cleaners is don't use one, UNLESS you have been using it since day 1 with your computer. And even then, they are not really necessary. The exception would be the Registry cleaner that comes with CCleaner (I recommend the Slim version) - the only cleaner I would recommend. And I recommend it because it is NOT aggressive, and it prompts to backup the Registry - something many don't.

And even at that, a better Registry back up solution is to use ERUNT.
    • Download, install, and run ERUNT,
    • When prompted to add ERUNT to the Start-up folder, click No,
    • Start ERUNT, select Ok to continue,
    • In the box that opens, select the save location for the backup (the default is recommended),
    • Ensure the "System registry" and "Current user registry" options are checked,
    • Click OK,
    • When prompted, click Yes to create a new folder,
    • When Registry backup is complete notice appears, note restore instructions, then click OK.

In ANY event, these are cleaners, not fixers. Don't use a cleaner on a broken machine.
