I hope I have chosen the right forum here, if I haven't I hope whoever will be nice about pointing me in the right direction. Already been called names on another forum today, my first post on that forum too!
I use Firefox and Thunderbird. I was a Mozilla zealot, and intend to keep Firefox as my default browser, but lately I can see the things Outlook does that Thunderbird doesn't. I think that using the calendar/diary function of Outlook, and having it combined with my email, which I check pretty much every day, could save me from trying to keep track of a heap of appointment reminders, and generally get a bit more organised, and less "at the last minute.". And the hassle of having to move emails to other folders, Outlook seems to cope with a lot of emails in the Inbox where Thunderbird does not do as well. "From none, to a few" to quote Mozillazine forums.
So the question is: How do I copy my emails from Thunderbird to Outlook?
Hi Tallin,
Thanks for the post, and googling what I possibly should have googled myself. And it is Outlook not Outlook Express that I want to move to. I don't think Express has the diary functions. Though I could be wrong there.
I recall trying to migrate contacts from a Windows Live (Hotmail) address to Gmail when I made the change. It was supposed to be possible if I went via Outlook express, but it didn't work and I ended up copying contacts manually, (I contacted Windows Live support and was told I could only forward emails, and contacts, from one Windows Live address to another Windows Live address, monopolists!) and I think I may have just ended up forwarding all the emails to the Gmail address, which meant they all had the same date. What also happened, that I didn't enjoy, by using Outlook Express for the first time, I also woke the sleeping beast of MSN messenger. Which popped up every time I started up, told me I wasn't signed in, ...until I disabled it.
You say you have Windows Live. I have reservations about Windows Live, see the attached. This from a guy who has tried out pretty much everything that Windows does, and obnoxious sort of sums it up. (NB No Outlook Express in Windows 7) I am contemplating the change to Outlook for the reasons I outlined in the initial post, I don't want it as part of a "bundle" or job lot, if that makes sense. I don't want even more MS hegemony.
That said, I will try out the instructions on the link you posted, bookmarked it for when I have a bit more time free of distractions. And yes I will post when I have tried it out, that way everybody gets the benefit of the information.
Thanks again
