How to repair corrupt jpg files?

    Hello guys,

I'm about to rip out my hair.

I just recently did a data recovery on my Hard drive and found some very important jpg files. Unfortunately they are corrupt and cannot be opened. I've tried a few programs that i've download online, but none really solved the problem.

The jpg photos in question were originally not from a camera, but from a dumpscreen of an image.

hopefully someone has a solution to this.

If a file was deleted and then recovered you can only get the file back if none of the sectors that the file was on was overwritten. Data recovery is very tricky, expensive, and it is not guaranteed. There are specialists that do this for a few hundred.

    Thanks townsbg

the file wasnt actually deleted. My drive was partitioned. Afer the partitioning, the drive was corrupt. I did a quick format and then recovered the corrupt jpg files.

Well the principle is still the same. A quick format creates a new file system on a partition and the database for the new file system isn't going to have the information as to where the old files were physically located on the hard drive. Recovery software can be used unless a sector (or sectors) on which a file was located was overwritten by the operating system with something else. It is possible for that to happen because the new file system didn't know that data was there. Does that make sense?

What did you use to partition the software? Where there any errors. Some repartitioning software will just erase the file system while some will work around it but even if it is designed to partition the drive without erasing the file system then there is still the possibility of data or file system corruption.
