    Vista to XP

I would like to try running XP on my lappy instead of vista. I have all the drivers for the laptop, but they are vista ones. If I was to use a formatted hard drive, install xp and then load the drivers, what are my chances roughly? I dont want to risk screwing my machine up but vista makes it so @@@@ slow somedays, it takes over a minute to boot up most days and it is a dual core with 2gb of ram.

What is the exact make/model #/Service Tag of the laptop?

DO NOT try installing/running XP with Vista drivers. It won't work.

It is an E System 3115. Has a dual core 2080 at 1.73 ghz, 2 gb of ram, vista home premium on it. Shame if I cant run xp on it, I've been all over the web for stuff to speed it up and after changing loads of different things I still barely notice a difference.

Hi studley...Would your system actually be a Ei-System Laptop?

With all the Googling I did on this Laptop I am leaning on recommending that you leave the Laptop at Vista. I'm finding others with similar and other Ei-System Laptops that are having issues getting WinXP drivers.

I'm going to post some links for you and hope that they might help...
    - http://www.softwaretipsandtricks.com...m-drivers.html - This link is for a different model of Ei-System but it goes to show the driver issues. THe 3rd page has some of the links I posted below
    - http://support.thetechguys.com/Layou...9-167f2c35e159
    - http://www.medion.co.uk/ - click on "Service & Support" then "Drivers & Updates"

You might also join the following forum and post to this thread as there is someone asking for Ei-3115 drivers here
    http://www.conceptex.co.uk/showthread.php?t=136

Looks like these guys sell the Ei-System Laptops...You could try and contact them and ask where you can get WinXP drivers.

Keep in mind that many new machines (which come factory pre-loaded with Vista,) have Vista-designed hardware. (This is what I was getting at in asking for your exact make/model.)

There are many people who have killed the Vista O/S on these type machines, only to find that the hardware in the machine does not have XP drivers. (Which is what dobhar is getting at as well.)

There appears to be an XP Driver Recovery/Restore CD available here http://www.user-guides.co.uk/downloa...p-drivers.html if this is indeed your machine. It states "Advent".

The page states "e system 3115 laptop drivers" on the opening page, however when you click on the (XP) link, it states "desktop" machines.

Is the machine an Ei-System as dobhar asked?

    There remains (at this point) too much ambiguity regarding your machine. If the exact make and model of the laptop cannot be determined, get a detailed report of all your machines (recognized) hardware;

Download, install, and run Everest Home Edition on this machine. (Clean FreeWare) Once it's finished loading and running, click on the Report Wizard in the Menu Bar. Save all hardware related pages (the default) to a TEXT file. (It will save it to C:\Program Files\Lavalys\EVEREST Home Edition\Reports by default, unless you redirect it.)

Compress (zip) the Everest Report text file and attach that zipped text document to your next posting. (When posting, click on Advanced, and just below the posting box you'll see "Additional Options", and within that, "Attach Files". Click on "Manage Attachments" and follow the prompts. Browse to the file and choose UPLOAD.)

With this report, a proper driver search can be performed, which will show if XP drivers have been written for the hardware in that machine.
