Invalid System Disc?????
I am trying to put windows 95 on a computer that i got from work that they wiped clean. I just want this to work so that my kids will leave my laptop alone. When I go to the boot menu and try to run the cd from the cd drive i get a message that says that it is an invalid system disc. is there something that i need to do before i can re-install windows 95 on to this computer?? the computer is a Dell.

Might want to go to Bootdisk.com and download a boot disk to a floppy with your present computer. (use the WinMe or Win98se version, either will work better than a win95 boot disk because they have more options)
Then, put the boot disk in and boot up the computer and select large disk support if it asks that question at any time.
When it stops, then type FDISK and hit enter.
It will run and will present you with a menu. Select DELETE ALL PARTITIONS and hit enter.
Then, when that is done, select CREATE a partition. (make only one) and hit enter
When that is done, select ACTIVATE a partition and hit enter.
Shut down and reboot with the boot disk still in the computer.
Type Format, enter or Format C: , enter (either should work)
When that is done, shut down again and reboot again with the floppy still in the computer.
When it stops, then remove the Floppy and put your CD OS disk in the computer.
When that comes up (be sure to select Large disk support) then type either Setup and type enter or Setup C: and hit enter.
That should get you going.
Note: I have not used Win95 for a few years, so hope I didn't forget anything. Let me know if you have any problems.

Windows 95 feels so long ago now! Almost another lifetime - lol! It's good to se someone still remembers how to use it!
