JPG Format not recognised - Help PLZ!
Hi all, Hope someone out there knows what I'm doing wrong..
I recovered some old JPG's that had previously been deleted from a laptop, but they won't open with any program that I have, always getting the same message.. "The source data format is not recognised". I've tried everything I know, including trying to convert them to another format. Probably something easy that I'm missing here, but please help!!

That error could indicate that the files were compressed.
If you right click one what are the properties?
-
Hi Jephree and thanks for the response.
The properties state the size is 28.9KB and size on disk 32KB. If they are compressed, how do I get around that?
-
Thought I should add that the recovered files are in .JPG format..

Are you using XP?
Does the folder icon have a Zipper image on it?
-
No, I recovered the files from within the folder they had been deleted in. When I tried recovering the folder, it came up with folders inside that were not only empty but were named with weird symbols. The names of the files are odd however, they all begin with ~. EG: ~Nov 03 008

What Operating System are you using?

Just thought I'd add:
1. This forum has some refresh issues so it is hard to respond back and forth quickly.
2. Here is a good free tool for compressing/uncompressing:
http://www.ultimatezip.com/download.htm
After it is installed it will add the compression options to your right click menu/shell.
I would right click those files/folders and see if you can Extract or Uncompress.

XP or 2k. Will try that link, thank you

No luck, the extractor can't see the .jpg files, and if I try to convert, I'm getting "Unknown Error#:-101
