    Zone Alarm Pro Problem

    Hi,

I have tried ZA support but they are doing site work....so here goes.

I had a problem [minor] with ZA Pro freezing on start up. I decided to uninstall it, but found I couldn't, so I did it in safe mode.

I also had to remove vsmon.exe manually.

When I rebooted and went to reinstall, ZApro.exe just reboots my entire system.

I ran a check that it is only ZA by installing another program "Kerio" firewall, and that went in fine.

Zone Alarm Pro just crashes me out after a double click on the file to attempt a reinstall. I have no idea what to do, and seem to have no real errors in the log other than..........

The latest release, Rob. I have solved the mystery. When uninstalling ZA, it NEVER takes away all it's rubbish, in particular, a file called vsdatant.sys.

For anyone who ever has a problem reinstalling ZA, either rename the vsdatant.sys to vsdatant.old [useful when upgrading and wishing to use the clean install option] or simply delete the file. It is located in the Win sys32.

Once that is done, all problems disappeared. eace:

Thank you for asking Rob, and it's clear you were going to try and solve my puzzle....it's really appreciated.

Yeah, Zone Alarm is a giant pain. It managed to break our Computers ethernet driver so that the only way we could use the internet was with Zone Alarm. But thats what reformats are for

Very true Alex, but I went and put ZA back again..........grrrrrrrrrrrrr........:armed: ......now it is GONE forever. I have grown to like Kerio with it's advanced options. It's a great firewall.
