    Hi Bear,

    Thanks for the feed back.

While I appreciate your sentiments, I think the "grow up" part of your answer was uncalled for. My request was not meant to offend anyone (and my apologies if it did.) I think we should all endevour to be polite and civil to one another at all times. And while I have your attention, maybe I can refer you to my other query under the Windows XP thread regarding a booting problem that I posted at the same time yesterday. I could do with some feedback on that one as quickly as the one you gave me on this one.

    Chris,

Can you be a little more specific when you say you want to "learn how to hack..."

If you mean can we teach you to use your computer to to gain illegal or unauthorized access to a resource, then unfortunately no we cannot....what are you intentions?

    Hi,
I think I owe everyone an apology about my request. What I actaully want is basically to learn how to use the computer to the best of my ability. I relealise that that the use of the word "hacking" is maybe the wrong way to go about my request, but let me explain why I used it. While knowing that hacking in itself is illegal, I can't help but admire the 'skill' that hackers have and I believe that one has to be very good at using the computer to be able to hack and therefore the same person should be capable of using their skills for a "good" and legal purpose and thats the skill I would like to learn. I'm also of the opinion that anyone well skilled in various aspects of the computer can be a "hacker" if they so willed, but aren't becuase they don't want to be. I know this all long winded and probably doesn't make sense to anybody, but the bottom line is "No I don't want you to teach me how to gain illegal and unauthorised access to resources", but I would like to learn the computer to such an extent that I could catch a hacker trying to get into my system for instance. I hope I clarified myself and have not offendend anymore people.

    Hi Chris

No problem, you can actually work against hackers for security firms by learning advanced techniques in compromising others networks and systems. I actually saw a bootcamp advertised in the states which is legitimate and takes you through how to effectively be a hacker. Obviously how you choose to use those skills is up to you and as you said, to actually try and hack someone else's system would be illegal.

If I were you I would decide which areas of computing you want to explore further, get some good books and just dedicate time to learning. I don't know where you live but there are probably some local courses which you could do also to concentrate on certain areas of interest.
