    AVG - Sygate, problem

    Hi Guys

Bit of a curious problem. I have a Sony Vaio notebook which is just over four months old. It came bundled with Norton Internet Security, for which the free subscription has just expired. I've done a bit of research and decided that I would install AVG and Sygate Personal Firewall as replacements for Norton.

I installed both programs only to find that the computer started to crash, and for some reason the Internet Explorer icon was renamed 'mimi' :eyespop: and I could no longer connect to the Internet through my wireless connection?

I've uninstalled both programs and everything appears to be back to normal.

Any ideas what the problem may be?

I had not yet uninstalled Norton.

    Hiya spook
    Here's what i would do:
I would re-download AVG7 but not install it yet. Then i would uninstall 'snortin' Norton (you might have to go to the Norton site for their own removal tool). When every part of Norton has been removed from your system, install AVG7. Then go to your XP firewall and turn it on. Use this set up until you are confident that AVG is working fine and fully updated.
Then i would go and download Sygate again. If you get the same problem with Sygate you might have to switch to ZoneAlarm for a firewall.
Either way, they're both better than Norton IMO
