iv been learning how to read HJT logs and i think iv pretty much got it down now. all except for enties like this: O9 - Extra button: (no name) - {CD67F990-D8E9-11d2-98FE-00C0F0318AFE} - (no file)
its not the "09 -" or "Extra button" part i have a problem with, its the (no file) im wondering about. even if i could find information from the CLSID and it checks out "ok", does this (no file) mean there is a reference to a file that doesnt exist any more and should be fixed anyway?
thx.
Tell me if this helps:
There is an excellent list of known CSLIDs associated with Browser Helper Objects and Toolbars, compiled by Tony Klein, here: CLSID List(http://computercops.biz/CLSID.html) . When consulting the list, using the CLSID which is the number between the curly brackets in the listing. The CLSID in the listing refer to registry entries that contain information about the Browser Helper Objects or Toolbars.
When you fix these types of entries with HijackThis, HijackThis will attempt to the delete the offending file listed. There are times that the file may be in use even if Internet Explorer is shut down. If the file still exists after you fix it with HijackThis, it is recommended that you reboot into safe mode and delete the offending file.
Did a google and that is from:
http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/tutorial42.html
thanks tyler.
so im guessing the (no file) part doenst in its self mean anything. i was already using the CLSID list by Tony Klein, but ill have a read through that tutorial when i have time. thx
Hey bro.
The best thing to do is to do your own log. If someone else does your log then they will look at some things that you want as adware and have you get rid of it. Don't use this program unless if it is the your last option. Use a different program first. After you run your adware remover program, reboot and run it again in safe mode. That will help you get rid most of the rest adware it missed in regular mode. If that don't work then use a program like hijackthis. When you do your logs find the things you want and mark then and add them to your ignore list. Looks for things like your firewall, anti-virus, toolbars you want, and things like that. If you don't know what something is you probably don't want it, but if you are scared to make that call then look it up in a google search.
Remember, it is your computer. Only you know what you want and don't want on it.
To keep this stuff from happening again use a good web browser. I don't use a firewall or any adware prevention program and I haven't had any problems. I use Opera for a web browser and I go to all kinds of underground sites just to test it.
I hope this works for you

Ren, I would have to completey go against you here.
I think HJT is the most up first option. Sure I use the others but I love HJT. And many experts will tell you firstly to use HJT. I will too. Because it find almost everything, while Spybot, Ad-aware etc May find only a few but HJT can find many.
As for reading and detecting your own log I [inst]highly disregard this[/inst]. And I mean highly. If you mess up your system by removing the wrong thing, we'll try to help you, but its best to leave it to the experts. HJT can be great for finding bad things, but can be used for removing good things. Please leave it to the experts.
Sorry Ren, but I had to disagree with you.
Before you use a program like hijackthis get yourself a adware remover program. After you run it, reboot in safe mode and run it again. This will get what it missed the first time.
A program like hijackthis doesn't really get rid of adware, it only detaches it. I goods adware program will get rid of it!

All you have to do is do a google search and it will tell you what everything is and you can decide if you want it or not!
Ren I highly suggest you read up on HJT. Any experienced computer repair technician, technical support expert can tell you HJT does wonders. I suggest a Google Search to learn the wonders of HJT. As for the method of removing HJT items. This is completely the wrong way! Google will help of course, but think of it as a "quick fix" it may work and may not. But of course, you computer won't catch on fire but it can damage Windows, corrupt IE, and files. It is not the way to do it at all! And nor will it ever be. There are several tutorials on the Internet to tell you how to properly use HJT. Here are just a few good ones:
http://www.pchell.com/support/hijackthistutorial.shtml
http://computercops.biz/HijackThis.html
But doing a simply Google search is likely not to help, but aide you in using HJT with the above tutorials. Do not do a simple Google Search and that way will not accomplish anything but hurting your system. That is why HJT has a code system and why there are tutorials out there.
Hahahahaha this is too funny............![]()
:rofl::rofl::rofl::rofl:
It is . I love debating when it comes to technical support just not other heated issues, political parties, abortion etc. I tend to stay out on those. But I go on full force on these. Sorry  just how I am. But I'm done now! And the thread got a bit messed up after it was merged, but all is well!Originally Posted by Strawberry Kiwi
