Well i received my reply from M$ but i'm not happy about it. Basically they say that only 90% of product keys are registered without a problem. They also say i should contact the outlet i bought it from?. WTF are Currys going to know about validating Windows XP! .

And the best bit IMO.....They told me not to worry about it as it's only in beta version and to carry on updating normally

Ohh yes.....M$ have filled me with confidence now!

I would send Cury's a certified letter outlining the problem. Tell them that you anticipate future problems with this invalid product key (obviously). Demand or firmly ask for a new computer or a solution to this problem, since you are under warranty. Then throw it in their face.
That should get the ball rolling. You would think they should be bending over backwards to help you, since you are still under warranty.
