Internet. Firewall software is a necessary component of having any type of broadband connection. Firewall software works
by hiding your computer (via the ports that connect it to the Internet) from unknown users. Firewall software basically
'stealths' your computer of network, hiding it from hackers who scour the Internet looking for vulnerable computers that
they can gain access to.

There are several free firewalls available for download. Below i have left links to two that seem to come out on
top of most polls.
Windows XP SP2 users will have a firewall built in to their system. This firewall is quite adequate but it does not
monitor traffic exiting your system. Therefore i would recommend turning the XP firewall off and using one of the free
online firewalls listed below.

Sygate personal firewall A good firewall that does not use much of your system resources.

ZoneAlarm At the top of almost all firewall polls.
