u might wanna try installing a download manager.
    this might fix your problem.

have u searched your hard drive for the file/s you are/have downloaded? possably the download box is minimizing?

as for the shockwave maybe a firewall is stoping it usually the case

have you gone to windows update and made sure all updates are installed?
you should always have up to date virus software.
these are steps u can/should do

if this fails then you might want to reinstall windows.

here is the windows update page
    http://update.microsoft.com/microsof....aspx?ln=en-us
this link will also tell you if your windows is genuine if not this would be why u dont get updates and it will tell you so you will know.

if you didnt delete any importaint windows files then things should be ok in that department.
but if you can't get updates and can't access your security/virus software then you might/probley have a virus.
on the other hand deleting files when your not sure what they are for can result in having to reinstall windows.

one suggestion is that u need a bigger hard drive and getting one is a lot cheaper and eaisier then even 6 months ago, plus it seems it might be a good time to start a new install of windows.

if you are going to reinstall windows and have never done this before let me know and i have some steps/tips that would be important.

Did you delete any files in the /windows or /program files directories? Have you tried running your computer in safe mode? Restart your computer and after your computer scans your devices start hitting F8 until you get a menu with the boot up options. Select safe more with networking and then try updates. What is the make/model of your computer? Have you recently updated your drivers? Why are you installing shock wave? It sounds like you are having major problems other than shock wave so I wouldn't try to install it until you work out the problem with your computer's response time.
