    mail warning

I am looking for an application which will warn me that a new message was received in my OE inbox.
as I remember I had such a program several years ago but I lost it and OE doesn't do it.
On the contrary, when I keave OE open the new messages do not appear in the inbox and I must first reopen it or click on the "receive" button.
    i work on winxp, oe6
    please advise
    Thanks

OE is not my regular email client, however, email notification has always been a weak area there. If you enter:

    Outlook express new email notification

in your favorite search enginesyou will find several options to choose from.

I must ask, however, are you using a spam blocker? Some provide system tray icons in place of the one for your email client.

I use and swear-by MailWasher Pro. It has the distinct advantage over other spam blockers in the it processes the email on the mail server at your email provider. All other spamblockers work by downloading the entire email, and any potentially dangerous attachments to your hard drive, then it analyzes it for spam. To me, that is like asking a stranger at the door to come inside, and THEN asking what he wants.

MailWasher Pro is great for folks like me that have many emails addresses to check because it checks them all, and displays a list in a single interface.

MailWasher Free is great for folks with only one email address to watch.

    thank you Digerati
I looked for an appropriate notification program but still didn't find a really efficient one.
There is something in the OE options too, but it doesn't work as expected
as to spam - my internet provider filters out most of them and only a few enter my inbox.
I check from time to time the deleted spams at the IP site and till now i found no problems
    thanks anyway

Not sure what you mean here. I hope you are not following links in those spam message. The best thing to do, if even the slightest bit unsure, is to delete them.

My ISP (Cox) also has a spamblocking service, but like all spamblockers, they are not perfect. Some spam still gets through, but more importantly to me, there are occasional false positives - that is, legitimate email they tag as spam. Therefore, I never allow any spamblocker to automatically delete any mail.

I am sorry none of the notifiers meet your needs. If you find something, let us know.

Just re-read your opening post and saw this.

That sounds normal. Under Tools > Options > General tab, under Send / Receive Messages, make sure "Check for new messages is checked. Then you may want to increase the frequency of checks by reducing the number of minutes between checks.

do you have any other email client? i kno in school the teachers have outlook and there are always popups saying "new email recieved". Also, the web access (outlook) does it.
If your email account is Hotmail/Msn/Live then you could use Live messenger. It alerts you when you have new mail, and you can click on the box and it takes you to the email

I need to clarify too. There is indeed a feature called "Outlook Web Access" but it is not a part of Outlook, but rather a feature set enabled (and managed) by the system administrator of a corporate/enterprise Microsoft Exchange Server to allow users to get their email via a browser - often for when they are traveling. Typical home users do not access their mail in this method.

do you have any other email client?
To ensure there is no confusion, an email "client" (properly called a MUO - Mail User Agent) is any computer program running on a local PC used to manage email on the local computer - whether in a corporate network environment, or a stand-along PC at home. So, Outlook Express is a client program, as is Outlook, Thunderbird, Eudora, Pegasus, and many others.

Ah, yes. But that is only when used with Microsoft Exchange, which I don't think applies to yochanan's situation here. I think his solution is to keep OE running, but minimized.
