    You have successfully installed Windows Installer 3.1 and you have successfully installed Windows XP SP2 but, when you try to install other software, you still receive an error saying "Windows Installer cannot be accessed"? Is this correct?

    Go to Start Menu > Run. Type services.msc and click OK. This opens the list of Windows services. Scroll down to Windows Installer. Right-click it and then select Start. What happens? If it gives an error, please tell us exactly what it says.

    Pardon me for jumping in here, but we're all involved with other threads by this poster. I felt that contribution towards resolution on this may help with the other threads.

    Go here;

    http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/d...displaylang=en

    and get the Microsoft .NET Framework 1.1 Service Pack 1.

    Click the Download button on this page to start the download, or select a different language from the Change language drop-down list and click Go.

    Do one of the following:
    To start the installation immediately, click Run.
    To save the download to your computer for installation at a later time, click Save.

    Click on the downloaded file to install it (if you didn't install online.) If requested to restart your machine, do so. Try installing your original desired file/utility. ("... bit defence anti virus or another softwares with installing with window installer..."

    Post back with your results.

    Sorry to be so long in getting back. I suggest an "over_the_top" or repair install;

    How to perform an in-place upgrade (reinstallation) of Windows XP
    http://support.microsoft.com/default...us;Q315341#top

    From the above MSKB article:
    1. Insert the Windows XP CD into your computer's CD-ROM or DVD-ROM drive, and then restart your computer.

    2. When the "Press any key to boot from CD" message appears on the screen, press a key to start your computer from the Windows XP CD.

    Note Your computer must be configured to start from the CD-ROM or DVD-ROM drive. For more information about how to configure your computer to start from the CD-ROM or DVD-ROM drive, see your computer's documentation or contact your computer manufacturer.

    3. You receive the following message on the Welcome to Setup screen that appears:
    This portion of the Setup program prepares Microsoft Windows XP to run on your computer:

    To setup Windows XP now, press ENTER.

    To repair a Windows XP installation using Recovery Console, press R.

    To quit Setup without installing Windows XP, press F3.

    Press ENTER to set up Windows XP.

    4. On the Windows XP Licensing Agreement screen, press F8 to agree to the license agreement.

    5. Make sure that your current installation of Windows XP is selected in the box, and then press R to repair Windows XP.

    6. Follow the instructions that appear on the screen to reinstall Windows XP. After you repair Windows XP, you may have to reactivate your copy of Windows XP.
