Word 2003: Lost toolbar
Hi
Sorry if this has been asked and answered before. I did a search but couldn't find anything.
In Word documents, I've lost the bar at the foot of the page - the one with things like Outline View etc, and the scroll bar that moves from left to right.
Can anyone tell me how to restore it? Many thanks in advance.

Hi
It sounds like you are in 'Reading layout'; try this:
from the 'View' menu select 'Normal'
Hope this helps.

Thanks, Jeff. I tried this, but it still doesn't work. If I click a Toolbar button such as, say, Drawing, that pushes the bar I can no longer see properly back into view. But I can't see all of the Drawing toolbar - which I used to be able to do before. For some reason the 'Start' bar is covering most of the bar I want to see. I've obviously hit some key combination at some stage, but what, I don't know.
Thanks again, and if you have any other ideas - bearing in mind what I've now told you - I'd be very grateful.

Does this happen with other Office applications?
Do you have similar problems with non Office products?

Tools/Options/View
Put checkmark next to Status Bar.

Jeff - I only use Word 2003, so this problem isn't arising elsewhere (at least as far as I can tell). It's the horizontal bar at the foot of the page. I can just see the top of it over the bar that contains the 'Start'/date button etc.
Broni - I tried what you suggested, but this box was already ticked. I tried unchecking it, coming out, then going back in again and checking it, but nothing happened. The 'horizontal bar' was also checked. (I thought that might be the problem as it's the horizontal bar I'm having trouble with.) I unchecked the horizontal bar and it disappeared. I then checked it, and it returned - but it's still almost completely hidden behind the 'Start' bar.
If I insert another toolbar - such as 'Drawing', for example - then this kicks the horizontal bar back into view. That's the only way I can see it.
Thanks to you both for your help and suggestions. If you have any more ideas, I'd still be very grateful. Many thanks.
James
PS My first post wasn't as clear as it should have been, but as I mentioned in my second post - and this one - the bar is there, it's just that it's barely visible.

What would happen, if you click on "Restore Down" button (middle one in top right corner)?
Will status bar be visible in non-maximized view?
BTW...Can you post a screenshot of the bottom of your window?

Hi Broni
I was about to post the screenshot you asked for but tried your suggestion first. And it worked. I hadn't noticed the middle button had changed from the two small squares to the one large square. As soon as I clicked on it, the two small squares came up and the bar reappeared.
I assumed I would lose it again if I clicked back to the big square, but I haven't. Whether I click on it so I have one large square or two small ones superimposed over each other, the bar is now visible. It's also brought back the one below that tells you what page you're on etc.
Either way the problem is solved, for which I'm very grateful. I can add this to my growing list of things I know what to do next time something like this goes wrong. I wish I had enough knowledge to help others.
As always, thanks to everyone who takes the time and trouble to help out computer-illiterates like me.
All the best.
