Hello!

I purchased a Sony Handycam DCR-DVD108 and it seems I am missing a codec to use moviemaker. In the specifications the compressor used seems to be in a mpeg2 format and I am in the process of trying to locate an appropriate website to provide me with a free mpeg2 codec. www.free-codecs.com seems to be a reputable website so i've been browsing through their listings but seeing all the different codecs for mpeg2 make me nauseous. I dont want to download a crappy codec because this is going to be for my girlfriend (she deserves the best :-) )

Also, im not sure what comes with adope elements or the adobe video editing software, do codecs come with it? I plan to use that software to do my video editing after reading your "beginner's guide".

Just so you can see what is making me assume I need a codec I'm trying to open the file in movie maker and I get the following error message:

The file C:Stuff\Morestuff\\House Tour.mpg cannot be imported because the codec required to play the file is not installed on your computer. If you have already tried to download and install the codec, close and restart Windows Movie Maker, and then try to import the file again.

I did some more research and was advise to download Windows Media Encoder and got this message when trying to convert the file:

One or more codecs required to open this file could not be found. (0xC00D1B83)

So to wrap up my post: I'm trying to find an appropriate codec so I may edit my video. If adobe's video editing software comes with a mpeg2 codec I'd just get that instead of downloading. Thanks.
