Uninstalling Norton Internet Security

Another vote here against Symantec/Norton. Bloatware, and once installed, as you've seen, it doesn't take well to removal.
I too use Avast AV. Excellent product and protection. It's an "install and forget" product. Everything runs automatically, updates etc.
I use Comodo firewall as I don't have a router/network. Another excellent product. Full blown FREE firewall.

When you uninstall norton internet security or any other application, be sure to do it as cleanly and completely as possible as it can leave annoying traces in the registry if not done properly.
So you just used a tool that you downloaded to uninstall? well, ideally you should be using the removal tool that was included as part of the Norton Internet Security application, but if not, the Windows Add or Remove Programs utility is your friend.
If still it didn't work, you can use the specialist uninstaller released by Symantec specifically for Norton. You can refer to this guide on how to uninstall norton internet security 2007. It was developed because a lot of users find it difficult to remove Norton from their system.
