incredimail servers
Hello! It has been a while since I have been here. My son has been helping me. He finally hooked me up with Windows XP. It's been doing fine until about a week ago. I have been trying everything to get my e-mail back. Nothing I have done has made a difference.
I share a computer with my husband. He isn't having any problems.
Here's the deal...When I open my incredimail, a pop up appears. It says the incoming.verizon.net cannot be found. User is recognized and name is in the data base, but does not have the correct associated data being resolved for.
This is what shows before the explanation...
socket error 11004
Port 110
Protocol POP
I hope you can help me.
Please call me Shirley.

A little Internet research has suggested that "Socket error 11004" may mean that your PC cannot find the server that it is looking for.
Try the following troubleshooting steps to see whether your Windows environment cannot see the server or whether it's just the Incredimail software that has an issue.
1. Click the Windows Start Menu and select 'Run'.
2. In the box, type cmd and click 'OK'.
3. A black Command Prompt screen will open. In the black screen, type ping incoming.verizon.net and then press [Enter]. Note that there is a space after the word "ping".
You should get 4 lines starting "Reply from ......." and a bunch of numbers and values. If this is true, then your PC has its DNS entries correctly configured. In other words, the networking / Internet connection is able to find other servers on the Internet. If the above test returns four "timeout" entries or other messages suggesting that the action failed, then the problem is not just with Incredimail - it's more fundamental than that and we will need to resolve that first .... then Incredimail will probably start working again.

Hi DJ, I just did the test and I got 4 lines starting with reply from. That's good, isn't it?

The successful ping test proves that the "incoming.verizon.net" mail server is there on the Internet and your PC can communicate with it. However, Incredimail won't communicate with it in the right way to retrieve your emails. The error message from Incredimail suggested that your username was correct but perhaps the password isn't? I would recommend going into the Incredimail screen where you set your email accounts up (sorry, I'm not familiar with Incredimail so I can't tell you how) and then re-enter the password. Try to receive new emails after that. If it still doesn't work, go back to the account setup screen and see if there is an option for Secure Password Authentication (or something similar). If there is, try changing that setting.
