RTF file problem

RTF file problem
Hi. I seem to have experienced some unexpected transformation of my rtf word document files and I don't know how to change them back. They used to be indistinguishable from word files, but now all of them have converted into rtf wordpads and even if I make new rtf files they all turn out to be rtf wordpads not rtf word documents, but I have no problem with word documents proper. How do I solve this problem?

Hi there
Have your file associations got their knickers in a twist. This happens sometimes.
Windows associates file extensions with particular programs and it sounds as though RTF files are now associated with Wordpad on your computer and not Word.
You can change this easily. In Windows Explorer go to the Tools Menu and select Folder Options.
Click the File Types tab.
You will see a list of all the file extensions that Windows knows about (there maybe an awful lot of them). Scroll down the list until you come to RTF and select it.
In the details section at the bottom half of the dialog box you should see which program this file extension is associated with. If it is Wordpad all you need to do is click the Change button and then browse for Word. Select it and click OK.
Click OK again to close the Folder Options dialog and now your RTF files should open in Word.

Thanks for advice. I scrolled down the whole list and didn't find any RTF extension at all. Strange. It must have disappeared. What am I to do?
