best FREEWARE firewall
I have been using ZoneAlarm for a long time but recently I noticed that it got very poor leak test ratings and also very poor rating on Major Geeks.
I have heard great things about Comodo firewall - has anyone used this or do you have recommendations on other top firewall software [freeware]?
Thank you.

There are not many free ones left.
There is of course the built in XP firewall which is all I use currently.
I've gone through ZA & Sygate & Outpost & dumped them all. They caused more problems then they solved on my system.
Anyway Comodo looks interesting. Good reviews as you say.

This is the first I've heard of it. Perhaps I'll try it.

I use Comodo. No problems at all. I recommend it to (computer) clientele, and load it on all systems I work on. You can't beat the price for the protection you get.
It has received a very good review here (top score, and it's free);

I recently dropped Zone Alarm as the free firewall that I recommend to customers. Far too many questions all the time. Users of free firewalls (in my geographical area at least) are often novice home users who have bought their first cheap PC recently and can't afford a good security package as well. They've absolutely no idea whether CCApp.exe should be allowed access to the Internet or whether it's OK for ZL123.tmp to communicate with an external DNS Server. They're novices, not techies. So, on that basis, I'm MUCH more impressed with Sygate (Kerio) Personal Firewall. "Run the Setup and choose the 'Simple Mode' option" is the only instruction anyone needs to get it up and running usually. It's easy to install and, in the Simple Mode, you don't get any pop-ups - it just works everything out for itself. Brilliant!

Hi DJ,
" Sygate (Kerio) Personal Firewall"
I'm confused. Last I knew, Sunbelt Software had taken ownership of Kerio, and Sygate was an entirely seperate entity.
Have things changed as of late????
