Have you uninstalled and reinstalled? Sounds like a corrupt installation to me

If Word loads up and you are able to create and edit a file, I don't see that as a corrupt installation. That said, before uninstalling and reinstalling any Office product (Word, Outlook, Excel, PowerPoint), I recommend you go to Help > Detect and Repair and try that first - it works well.

But beyond this, I would suspect the memory stick. How much free space is on there? If running low, purge some stuff out of there, or compress your data with a file compression program, like WinZip or WinRAR. Note when Word opens a saved file, the disk space is NOT freed up - you can verify this by looking in the directory and you will see the file is still there, but now with ~$ as the first two letters. And when you save the file again, the original disk space is STILL not freed up, not until the file is saved successfully, only then is the ~$ file deleted.

Instead of saving the file to the stick, try saving it to your desktop (do a save as then point to the new location). Then if it saves successfully, copy it to the memory stick and then it will overwrite the original file (if using the same name).

I'd not even thought of that!

Kaneis1 - if you note in the opening post, he is not trying to save it to his computer, but to the memory stick.
