I have a word document with an index (table of contents) It is a big index with 3 headings types and therfore strecthes over a page and a half.

I need to work out how to put a gap between say heading 1 and the next heading 1 (within the index).

How can i do this?

An update to this: A friend says i can do this by cimply pressing return before the line i want a gap between- however i must do this at the very end else when i refresh the index it will go back to no gaps.

Is there a way round it so it stays with the gaps?

If you highlight the lines you want the gaps between then go to format/paragraph you can choose to change the line spacing.
