Re: What browser are you using?

i use Firefox. been using it for a year or so and very satisfied with it. up till now i feel that in terms of security and popups and such it is pretty darn good compared to IE. though to be fair i have yet to use much of IE7.

have heard pretty good things about the Opera browser as well, but i use Opera browser for my phone. lol.

i'd recommend FF or Opera compared to IE.

I am not trying to stir up arguments over which is better, and I am not accusing Kaistar or anyone else here of fear mongering or Microsoft bashing (although I don't really think it fair, even with the disclaimer, to compare FF to an outdated version of IE). The above statement just reminded me of many heated discussions I have had with several recognized IT security experts, other colleagues and many experienced users who INSISTED everyone must switch to FF because IE was so unsafe and Firefox was so much more secure.

To avoid driving this thread off-topic - which simply asks "What browser are you using and why?" - please wander on over to the new thread I started, Practicing Safe Computing.

I started using Firefox because it was recommended by someone at work, and I'm happy with it.
I installed IE7 on comps at home and work and it screwed up the view on the screen. It didn't last, and at home I use IE6 only when necessary.
Opera - I gave that a run for a few weeks too. But it works with Yahoo and I prefer to use Google through Firefox.

Last week I started using Enigma browser and I am impressed with its speed and versatility. It looks good and is easy to navigate and personalise. I prefer it to IE7 although both have their merits.

You do realize that, like Maxthon, Enigma is IE6 underneath, with a few enhancements like tabbed browsing added on, right? That's not to say there is anything wrong with that - IE6 sat unchanged for so long, there was lots of room for many good enhancements. I only mention it because I was surprised how many Maxthon users were unaware that it too was really IE under the hood.

Digerati: Yes, I am aware. However, it is slicker than IE7 and I am able to reduce the tool bars to a single line thus giving more window space. Maxthon does not allow access to all the websites that I use, Enigma does.

    Great - just making sure.

That would be nice. IE7 took some toolbar flexibility away - forcing folks to retrain their brain's auto-mouse pilot (I grumbled about that much longer than it took to retrain ).

It's too chunky now altough there is space to slim it down, plus it would have been nice to have the option.

The new X-Setup Pro does have some tweaks for IE7 that allows some customization - but I don't find IE7 toolbars a problem now that I am used to them - actually the Google Toolbar add-in insisting it be locked to a edge bothered me more.
