outlook read receipt
I think I know the answer to this already…. “cant be done”
Can I send an outlook with a read receipt but not let on to the recipient I have asked for one?
Because they can check it cant they so that anyone who asks for a read receipt can be identified when they open the mail I send.
thanks

When the recipients open the message, I do not believe they are going to find out right away that you have requested read receipt. When your e-mail is opened by somebody, you get an e-mail from that somebody saying he/she has opened your message. This e-mail is not sent right in front of their eyes such that they can take notice of that activity live (try this by sending an e-mail to yourself with read receipt activated). However, by going to the tracking of a message, it can be easily found out who has opened the message up to that point. I said "opened" and I did not say "read", because you can still read a message without actually opening it, hence avoid triggering sending a read receipt.

I use a nifty program called http://www.msgtag.com/home/ Doesn't register receipts if received by plain text recipients but not many of those around
They never know I know they received my email!

Joe re "When the recipients open the message, I do not believe they are going to find out right away that you have requested read receipt. "
i think you are wrong... there is a setting which they can specify which says "tell me when someone asks for a read receipt" this is what im trying to overwrite, thanks for responding though.
beaver- thanks- but this is for work purposes... i dont think i could use this in collaboration with my work outlook could i...

Why not? If you've the ability to install programs then yes you can, if you're not able to install programs then no.
With regard to the read receipt in outlook, if someone doesn't click anything I get a message stating that the message was deleted without reading, which of course it wasn't, they just didn't click any radio button

I use Yahoo and Hotmail for personal use. At work, I use outlook 2000. I am not familiar with other outlooks. In 2000, I can still read the e-mail without trigering sending a read-receipt by turning the auto preview on. Also, to avoid sending a "the message was deleted without being read", I have created a "junk" folder for those messages that I have read via auto-preview but have not opened. I throw those messages in that folder and let them stay there. No kind of message, "read" or 'deleted" is ever sent from me, as long as I follow above. Of course, there is a feature that let everybody know the message has been delivered. Nothing can be done about that, because that is a server issue.

joe- yes thats what i was getting at - ebing the sender rather than the recipient- so its a server issue- im buggered!
