Hello,
I was using Nero 6 ( nerovision ) to convert AVI's to DVD format without any problems.
Then a freind recommended trying WinAVI as the conversion time was much quicker.
I tried this and it worked but I was unhappy with the quality and went back to using Nero.
since then I have been getting various problems with failed conversions !!! ( codec problems ??)
I read on other forums that winAVI can cause conflicts etc. with other programs so I uninstalled it and updated my codec pack. ( K-lite megacodecs )
Nero now works 95% of the time but sometimes crashes ( just closes ) or sometimes comes up with a dialog box ;-
"unable to write to memory location xxxx xxx " etc.
I have tried uninstalling my codec packs and re-installing but still have occassional problems !!
anyone got any ideas ??

System Restore should help u.
Restore to point before installing WinAVI
start-programs-accessories-system tools-system restore.

Tried system restore , but it fails to fully restore ??
tried 3 different restore points !!
the full error message when DVD conversion fails in nero is as follows :-
NEROVISION.exe Application Error
the instruction at "0x00348d9e" referenced memory at "0x015238c8".
the memory could not be "read"
Click on OK to terminate the program.
is this a codec related issue ??
