Hi - I have exactly the same problem. Sometimes OE collects one email before giving me a error message. I have extended the timeout settings on the connection to the longest (5 mins) but it makes no difference. Is this a fault with the installation?? brian.f

I am unable to complete the full text but it goes like this:
your ISP has unexpectedly terminated your connection, this may be due to . . . . .
Socket error 10053 Error No Ox800CCCOF etc.
I can collect mail by logging into my ISP direct but if I use Outlook Express this is what I get.

Some email providers (e.g. Hotmail) have started phasing out POP3 / Outlook Express mail support - maybe your ISP is one of them.
If you have an anti-virus application with email scanning capabilities, disable the email scanning. Symantec, authors of Norton Anti-Virus, have actually been saying for a long time (although I've only just found out) that their email scanner is a waste of time because the Auto-Protect feature scans the emails as soon as they get saved to the hard drive anyway!
