i took a few pictures with my camera, an Olympus Stylus 500. and tried to upload them to HP Image Zone. i put the memory card in the device, but the card isn't being detected. any suggestions?

What is the device? Is it an internal card reader or an USB device?

Is the reader detected without the card?

it is the SmartMedia/xD drive imbeded in the tower. as far as detection, i think it recognizes that "something" is there, beacuse the little green light on the tower turns on. but that's about all it does. i tried the "upload pictures from camera/card" option, and none of the drives were said to have anything in them.

Can you view the pictures on your camera?

Does your camera have a direct USB link option?

yes. i've uploaded pictures on thie computer numerous times before. the pictures are viewable on the camera. I did find a USB drive on the camera, but judging by it's size, it looks like it's more for a charger, and i don't believe i have a USB cable that small.

That is probably a Firewire connection. IEEE 1394.

Do you have other cards with photos on them that you can try? Just to determine if the issue is with this particular card or the reader?

Is this card just like the others you have used? Same speed etc.?
