No. Norton is known to be the absolute worst. Nothing, not even most trojans are on par with it. I've had all major versions uptil 04/2006. removing it totally and never going near it was the best step I ever took... apart from coming online here obviously

If you get rid of Norton totally and install these they will only make your system more excellent, easier to control and less of a problem. When you face a problem you'll also be able to deal with it much more effectively. They are very small and compact and tale very little system resources.

Surf the net... every single mod, admin, tech, enthusiast and knowledgeable will tell you to get these first! Just like here.

People like Owen, Neal, VopThis etc, know a lot more about Internet security and vulnerabilities than me or you so believe me, if they've said to get it... get it!!

Read Owens link and follow his advice which is unanimous advice of all experts.

For anti-virus, personally I use avast! and its brilliant. AVG didn't work out for me.

    Thanks.

Kazna, I use Windows Defender, SpywareGuard, Threatfire, and SpywareBlaster with all internet protection enabled. For virus protection, I have used AVG, Panda, Avast and Rising. Panda and Avast seemed to get knocked out more easily (without any other backup protection) than AVG and Rising. AVG Internet Security Free was not compatible with my preferred firewall, Online Armor, however, but Rising Internet Protection is (if you give permissions to each), and I like that combination.

As far as antispyware/antimalware protection, I use these without any conflicts: Threatfire, Windows Defender, SpywareGuard Free (with 2007 definitions), Advanced System Protector, MalwareBytes Free(for scanning only), Spyware Begone (scanning only), Spyware Terminator Free(scanning only), ExterminateIt (scanning only) and Spybot S&D (scanning function only). I also scan once in awhile with The Cleaner Trojan Remover, FSBL, AVG Anti-Rootkit, and Sophos Anti-Rootkit). I have used VMN Anti-Spyware, but I found it did not detect anything except Spyware Guard 2008, which is a false positive if you have SpywareGuard installed. It will delete your SpywareGuard system tray and live update applications, while leaving the internet protection autorun application intact. It only scans for 10 seconds and doesn't detect anything my other programs detect.

Wow Ricochet, that looks... like overkill (meaning no offense).

Yeah, that does sound like overkill, doesn't it? I have testing each of these programs, however, and I do not believe they cause any interference with each other's operations, and have concluded that a little blitzkrieging doesn't hurt anything. If I discovered any interference of a program with the others or it is not useful, I would just uninstall it. Each antispyware/antimalware program has different definitions, and it is impossible to determine which one is the best. However, if each one is frequently updated, they can all be useful in preventing or eliminating spyware or malware. I do not run every one of those programs coninuously. Some I just use for occasional scanning.

Kazna, I am now using Avast, with all realtime shields activated, as my primary antivirus program, along with Microsoft Security Essentials, Iobit Security 360, ThreatFire, Sunbelt Vipre, and PreEmpt without any problems. I just don't enable the active or email protection on the Sunbelt Vipre, and use it mostly for scanning, along with A-Squared Free, Spybot Search and Distroy, SuperAntispyware and Microsoft Windows Malicious Software Removal Tool. The Iobit 360 and ThreatFire are both made by PC Tools so they are compatible already.
