    Problem playing or capturing video

My problem started a few months ago. For some reason, my computer won't play videos smoothly any more. They play choppy, like it's only a few frames per second. It doesn't matter what type of video file it is, or what program I try to play it in. The files play fine on other computers.

I also can't capture video. I use WinDV for video capture, since everything else would drop frames, but now even that doesn't work. It might capture a few frames or a few seconds, but that's it.

I've tried using system restore, installing the latest video driver, reinstalling WinDV, shutting down background apps to free resources, but no change.

I've made several DVDs in the past with great results, and I can't figure out what changed. Any ideas would be appreciated.

    Hi Guitarman,
Sounds like a resources problem as you say.
If it used to work and now it doesn't then something has changed and we just need to find it.
The problem is that with auto updates etc. things can change without your knowledge then eat away your resources in the background.
Have you changed or added any OS updates, security updates, program updates, Windows Media Player updates, Internet Explorer updates etc???
Have you fixed any bugs in your s/w or downloaded any extras???
Do you have any other s/w to try to use for capturing, i.e. Vuideo Studio or similar?

    Regards.
