    help i need some big time !!!!!

    Please can anyone help me with this prob. I have a old camcorder which plays hi8 tapes and i want to put all the tapes on to dvd through my pc.I have had a good look over the video cam and only port holes i can see are yellow video,black audio,rfu dc out.i was tols i needed a usb thingie and then a svhs.Both of which i havent a clue what they are!! I have a fire wire card and cable on the way god only knows what i do with them...I have borrowed a dv mini cam with the idea of copying the hi8 tapes straight on to it then down loading them but yet again i havent a clue what i need or how to do..Please can some one help me...Regards Maria

    never heard of transferring of transferring tapes onto DVD via usb but it probably can be done. however the way that i would recommend is through a TV card which you may or may not already have. connect the yellow video on the camcorder to the yellow video on the TV card. finally get the appropriate lead to connect the black audio to the mic socket in the back of the computer (you can probably get this from maplins) hope this helps

    I just had a similar project. I needed to copy from VHS-C tapes though, they are the chunkier tapes just before Hi-8. I purchased this bit of kit http://www.pinnaclesys.com/PublicSit...r+Platinum.htm and then played the VHS-C tapes in the VCR through the PC and the Dazzle software did the capture. Worked perfectly. When I transfer video off the mini-dv cam though I do use firewire and go straight into the PC firewire card from the camera.
