    Windows Movie Maker Version problem

Okay, so I stupidly downloaded Windows Movie Maker because I thought that it was a later version. Before installing it, I had Windows Movie Maker 2.1, but now I just have 2.0 because of the new installation. How do I get it back to 2.1?

Looks like you need to uninstall and reinstall SP2:

You might try a System Restore first:

start > All Programs > Accessories > System Tools > System Restore

system restore did not do it. and i dont know how to reinstall SP2 or anything like that. Windows Updates doesn't seem to help, either. the only problem i have with this current version of Windows Movie Maker is sometimes crashing. before it crashes it usually saves some progress. then again, i could just wait for Vista when a newer version of MM comes out. but until then, is there any way to restore it without doing the whole SP2 thing?

As far as my research the only download is incorporated into SP2.

wait, I found a download that will install SP2. It's the "Express Install". Is this the right one? I just need it for movie maker, nothing else.

NOTE: I got this download off Majorgeeks

There are many variables here. Was XP SP2 pre-installed on your computer? If so you would need to reinstall Windows itself.

If you installed SP2 yourself then it will be listed under Add/Remove Programs. If so uninstall it and then go to Windows update and it will reappear as a Critical Update.

You will not be able to just install it on top of itself. If you have it currently you will have to remove it.
