MPEG problems with Media Player 11
Just noticed today that mpeg files don't have video. Everything was working fine yesterday, today it's just "broken". I reinstalled WMP, I even uninstalled and reapplied all the codecs. Nothing is working and I'm using the WM9 Codec pack, WM9 VCM Codec, AC3Filter 1.10b, a codec pack from FreeCodecs.com, and MPEG Decoder.
And I think this all started with codecs. I'm having a strange problem where Adobe Premiere Pro 2.0 won't let me import mpg/mpeg files. My friend however seems to be able to import them just fine and I tried out a bunch of codecs that he sent me. I uninstalled most of them since nothing was working.
I start WMP11 with the mpeg video. It says "acquiring codec" then goes on to "codec acquired". The movie begins to play but a red "x" appears in the playlist and WMP treats it as a sound file. Just sound, no video.
It's definitely a WMP problem. The video plays fine on Creative MediaSource Player.

Just as a quick try I would uninstall WMP11 Beta and reinstall WMP10.
Beta software is for testing and apparently has issues with your system.

If you need additional Codecs at this point I would suggest:

Hey Jephree, thanks a lot bud. Installed the codecs and it made Windows Media Player Classic the default player for mpeg and mpg files. The video works perfectly there but WMP11 Beta 2 remains for everything else. I've found it to be perfect for my vast MP3 collection =)
Take care.

And keep on hangin' around :P

Ack, this is not working. I just noticed I can't view daily NHL highlights at NHL.com because they use Windows Media Player. I reverted back to 9 and still no video in mpeg/mpg files. It tried to connect to a codec server but failed. Back to WMP11 now and it says the same old "Acquiring codec...codec acquired" and still no video. My firewall isn't blocking it and I have absolutely no idea what to do
Codecs are not working.

Perhaps the problem resides in the system32 folder.

Ok, I'm extremely frustrated now. I deleted every codec and reinstalled AC3 Filter 1.09a.
But this is a breakthrough:
http://www.fileformat.info/format/mpeg/sample
When I clicked on "view", the first two files gave me this:
"Windows Media Player cannot play the file. One or more codecs required to play the file could not be found."
The last three however worked, even though they took a bit to load. When I clicked on the first two, they worked as well!
I thought it had been solved so I went back into WMP and loaded up a couple videos to test but no luck. Still no video.
What can this possibly mean?
