i go on YouTube and watch tv show clips put into a jumble of random segments that people have made. i was wonder how to do this. do you need the dvds of the show?

There's a number of ways to do this but the easiest and most likely is to record the show directly to your PC's hard drive in mpeg2 using a PTVR card or plug-in, then you can use any editing software to edit, adjust or rearrange the clips as you wish. You then compress the mini movie into something like mpeg4 or wmv and upload it.
