Versions of MPEG
Hi, I am loading video into a presentation package called Opus (a sort of superior powerpoint) and it appears to easily accept some .mpg files and refuse to work with others (or take a significant time to load and then play badly).
I have heard that there are various flavours of MPEG are there and utilities that can identify which type of MPEG a particular file is and then can the specific variety of mpeg be changed?
I have been wrestling with this problem for about a week and getting nowhere - help please.

Hi Riftvalley,
I'm an expert on mpeg so I can help you.
Firstly, where are you getting your video files from?
The type of mpeg or other compression is a function of what created your videos.
So, what created them?
Are they from a digital camcorder, camera, TV, PC, web-downloads?
Just about any editing program will be able to tell you what compressor and what settings were used.
Just load the clip into the editor and select "properties".
HTH,
Regards.

Hi Ford Prefect,
Many apologises for not replying earlier. I solved my problem by opening the videos using Nero Vision 4 and then re-exporting the video as an mpeg-2, using a VCD template.
This works perfectly in the application I am using, with the added bonus that I can trim and edit, and add to, the videos to exactly my requirements.
Also, it appears that the quality is unaffected, whilst the file size is significantly less and they play much more easily (starting virtually instantaneouslu within the Opus application, rather than having to wait two or three seconds).
Thank you for your help.
