    WORD 2000 & e-mail merge

    Hi All,
    Win XP,
I have WORD 2000, and Outlook Express 6.x.

According to the help files, I should be able to do an e-mail merge similar to sending form letters, only e-mail instead.

I can get all the way to the Merge dialog box, but all I have to select for Merge To, is New Document, or Printer. According to the help files there should be an option called Electronic Mail. There is not.

Any help or ideas will be appreciated. Any thoughts as to what else I may run into--difficulty wise--would be appreciated also.

    Thank you.

    Clayton

Are you sure that Outlook Express supports mail merging? I would have expected that you'd need the full Microsoft Outlook application.

    Thanks for your Reply.

No, I'm not at all sure. I'm just looking for solutions to a need that i have to do some e-mail merging.

If I install Outlook 2000, does that--as far as you know--support doing e-mail merges? I do have that, I have just never installed it.

    Thanks again.

Yes, Word 2000 with Outlook 2000 definitely supports mail merging

I should mention that I have been able to make e-mail merge work, in WORD 2000. I had to add a number of lines to the win.ini file, but it is now working...almost as desired. It doesn't appear to handle HTML; plain text only.

So, do you know if there is a way to make WORD 2000, and OE, work together to send HTML?
    or
Is it only in Outlook 2000 that this is available?
    or
Am I in fact jumping the gun here, by assuming that Outlook will even do that?

    Thanks again.

    Clayton,

Sorry for the delayed response. I don't think there's any way of getting Outlook Express to do mail-merging 'out of the box' but you might be able to get a suitable mass-mailer application from Download.com (at your own risk!). However, Outlook 2000 and Word 2000 will do it in HTML if you get it set up right. You might be having trouble for one of two reasons:

    1. Maybe your document that you want to merge isn't actually written or saved in HTML format.
    2. Maybe your email program isn't configured to send messages in HTML format.

    Hope that helps
