Outlook send & receive permission error

I am having problems sending and receiving mail through Outlook. I have recently upgraded to Outlook 2003 from Outlook 2002 but the problem has carried over.

Whenever I try to send or receive mail the error message "You do not have appropriate permission to perform this operation" appears. I am the computer administrator and there are no other user accounts on the computer. I did, however, previously have another user with restricted access which I deleted before the problem occurred. The administrator/sole user account left has not been altered, though (except to remove the need to enter a password).

Please can anyone help? I've tried one fix I found to ensure that INTERACTIVE users have "Access Permission" in dcomcnfg. I am pretty computer-literate but not really familiar with Exchange and registry settings etc.

    Many thanks,

    Jo

Are you sure that the error is not actually being initiated by your ISP? You could check to see whether your email account with your ISP has a problem by trying to view your email on the ISP's webmail site (if they have one) or by setting up your account details on another PC with Outlook or Outlook Express and seeing if that can send and receive.

Thanks for the reply - all my email accounts work fine on the webmail site so I'm pretty sure that isn't the problem. Any other ideas would be gratefully received!

I've done a bit of a web search for this problem but not come up with much. It's not an error that I've come across before when sending and receiving in Outlook.

Could you please confirm that this is a PC connecting directly to the ISP - it's not a PC on a business network using Microsoft Exchange Server?

The fact that all is OK when you access your mail account using the webmail site confirms that your username and password are correct. Have you confirmed that your incoming and outgoing mail server addresses are right? You can usually find these details on the support pages of your ISP's web site or by giving their tech support number a quick call.

    Hi

Help!! A million times help!!! I am having the exact same error!! It's four years later so I suppose in the meantime you must have solved it. I too checked the dcomcnfg and added INTERACTIVE with all the permissions.

I am pretty sure it's got nothing to do with my ISP.

Let me know how this was solved.

Thanks, best regards & have a nice day
