Exclamation Problem with Windows Media Player

Hello, I have a problem with the music that I have downloaded from the internet (only the purchased music from, say, Napster), it used to work fine but just recently when I try to play any of these files (in any application - WMP, Real player etc..) I get the below message:

Windows Media Player cannot play the file. This can occur when another program or operating system component encounters a problem but does not communicate the nature of the problem to the Player.

It then gives me the option to close or get Web Help, if i click on web help it takes me to this page:

    http://www.microsoft.com/windows/win...nalid=C00D2798

and says I've encountered error message C00D11B1 while using Windows Media Player.

I can play any music that i've put on the computer from a CD or ones that haven't been bought from the Internet (eg downloaded from LimeWire).

I have recently used a new cleaner called CCleaner, after runnng a scan I fixed all the problems that it came up with, so maybe I have deleted a file using this that I shouldn't have?

Can anyone help please, it would be much appreciated.. Thanks

Did you run the Registry Cleaner (Issues) in CCleaner or just the Cleaner?

If you ran Issues did you backup your Registry at the prompt?

You might try a System Restore to a point prior to the problem:

start > All Programs > Accessories > System Tools > System Restore

    No I didn't save a backup...

The system restore option, if I have stored or installed any new things since the time I want to restore the system to, will I lose all of this data?

If the above doesn't work can I then restore my system back to how it is now..

System Restore will eliminate any subsequent changes yes. Perhaps not text data but any installations and or registry changes will be gone.

There is an option after restore to Undo the restore.

If I restore it back to a point, but it doesn't work, then undo the restore so it back to how it is now. Can I then restore it to a different point (if I'm not sure exactly when I need to go back to), or once I restored it once is that it?

Thanks for your help so far...

Ignore the last comments... I've tried restore, but it hasn't worked.

I think the problem isn't the CCleaner that I mentioned before, but Napster. Whenever Napster has an update it re-configures my WMP (and I usually have to reinstall my WMP as it doesn't work properly after this...

I think its this because restore lets me restore back to anytime up until the Napster update (8 July 06). I can restore on the same day, but after Napster, but can't restore on the same day, but before..

Do you have any other suggestions?

    Thanks

I have the same problem and it is not due to my Cleaner and not due to the MP3 Web site. It is definately due to WMP11. Everything played fine with WMP9. Once I downloaded WMP11 the problems began. I have Cleaner on my PC and no Cleaner on my laptop, still neither will play the MP3 files with WMP11. I would like to go back to WMP9 now and dump WMP11 unless anyone has a solution.
