Video files opening as audio, but no video
last night I removed some programs from my computer that I was not using. Mainly demos of audio and video editing software. I am not sure this is the reason or not, but I thought I would disclose it.
Now when I open .avi files they will open, but the computer will recognize the file as being a "song" only. I can hear the audio, but there is no video. Also my dvd burning software wont recognize file as video and wont let me burn to dvd.
can anyone help with this?
Thank you so much.

Hi Joe,
You've possibly removed a codec that's needed to decode the video, that's why they won't play.
Also, there are many different types of .avi files so it's important to know what program was used to create them?
That's the most likely program that will be able to play them, so if you trashed it, re-install.
Also, it's difficult to "look inside" an avi file to get all the details without some kind of editing prog. so you might have to re-install one of the demos in order to find out.
When you put the file on the time-line and righ-click and select properties, what do you get??
Let me know and I might be able to help more.
Regards.
