i've managed to forget the password to unprotect a worksheet doh! any ideas how i can unprotect it, thanks in advance.

well, there are many brute force programs you can use to get into a password protected document.
For example, "Excel Key" gets the password quite quickly, and the demo will give you the first two letters of the password. If that helps jog your memory, you should be ok.
