I tried to print from microsoft word I built for example a small number plate with yellow background but when it printed it dropped the back ground and only printed the letters

how did you do the background? was it a page background? did you fill in the text box? or draw a box arround the letters?
also, what version or word is it?

word xp went onto word art filled in text box with text said ok it went on page went to background filled with yellow and it just printed the text without the background

Also tried it on word document put in text them went to background but still no colour.

Can you help

instead of doing that, do a box however big you want it (the size of the whole page if you want the full page coloured) right click it and click and click 'format auto shape' in the drop-down menu next to colour (at the top), choose your colour and click ok
