    SONICSTAGE is driving me MAD!

    Hello nice computer types,

I was having problems with my VAIO (it was slowing down and struggling to play any CDs or DVDs). Although I'd only rarely connected to the internet, I thought I may have a virus. I updated my Norton account to the full package and ran numerous scans. Defragmenting and cleaning my hard disk did not help. I have not loaded a great deal of extra programs, I have about 10 Gb of music and 2 Gb of photos. I decided to backup my music in sonicstage. It is backed up on my Sony ATRAC player, my D drive and I bought an external harddrive and backed it up on that too.

I probably should have sought more expert help at this stage, but being an impatient type, with guidebook in hand, I recovered my windows. I reinstalled sonicstage and imported my music which was waiting safe and sound (I thought) on the D drive.

I tried to recover my music but got the message:

CANNOT PLAY BACK THIS TRACK. DO YOU WANT TO CONNECT TO THE INTERNET AND DOWNLOAD THE LICENSE FOR THIS TRACK? I was expecting this (it kindly warned me before I backed up the music). I said yes, connected to the internet, but it keeps telling me:

00002460-2035 CANNOT LOAD THE RIGHTS INFORMATION FOR THE SELECTED TRACKS. THE FILE FORMAT MAY NOT BE SUPPORTED BY SONICSTAGE. (0000010d).

All of the problem tracks are ATRAC format, there does not seem to be a problem with mp3 or win media player files. I don't know if this is important but I have hand typed most of the album song details (around 2000 - was unable to connect to the internet for a long time). I'm very frustrated and want my music back! I've contacted the VAIO support thing but heard nothing yet. The website does not really clarify anything. I've got a feeling that maybe I should've been warned about this by Sony before proceeding with 'backup'.

Has anyone else had this problem? Can anyone cast any light on the msgs from Sonic? Many thanks, Vicky

PS. I have a VAIO FS115E running Windows XP.
