Outlook Express Windows 98 message bodies not showing
Hi,
I found an extremely useful solution to problems I was experiencing on my computer recently on this website and it worked a treat. Thanks :-) However I am new to this site and have never posted a message so could someone please assist?
I'm using Win 98. I suddenly found the other day that my Outlook Express was not showing any message bodies at all. This occurred after much whirring of my computer and, low and behold, I found I had inadvertently downloaded searchassistant, about:blank and all that rubbush. Followed removal instructions posted to another victim (from this site) with Ad-Aware, About Buster and Hijack This and the garbage was removed. However problem with OE persisted.
In OE I click on an email header and nothing appears in the preview pane. I double click a header to open the email and still nothing appears. This happens in any folder in OE I open (Sent Items, Outbox, Inbox etc). The mouse cursor is an arrow when I shift it around the screen (as normal) except when in the preview pane in which it adds the egg timer as if it's trying to download something. But even when I'm online nothing is downloaded as I thought it may be an HTML message which may be taking time. Nothing appears with messages I know which are in text as well. I can send and receive as normal. I just can't read them!
I still have the emails: they're in my folders and in the maintenance store folder: c:\\windows/application data / etc etc.
I thought about reinstalling OE but don't have a copy of the original programme (it was preinstalled) and was afraid of losing all my emails.
Please help as I'm terribly stuck without my email.
Hi there, I have exactly the same problem as Robine12. However I don't even know how to post a HijackThis log. Hope someone can help me. Thanks, M5R10.
