    MP3 Player - Shared computers

Please can someone help!!! I share my home pc with my partner and we have our own profiles with which we log in. My partner has had numerous problems in using mp3 players - ipod, mobile phone mp3 player etc etc. The problem is that when the player is connected to download music to it a searchlight appears as if the pc is having problems locating the commected device, it does eventually connect but all sorts of probleks keep occuring. A friend has suggested the problem is because we have two seperate identities on the pc and that the pc might not be able to recognise the device is only applicable to my partners profile and not mine (I dont use mp3 players etc). Could this be the case? Should the device software be installed on a drive other than the C drive? Has anyone else had problems where they share a computer and use other devices such as mp3 players?

On my mp3 it has to search the mp3 for folders and music, I think it's just something the computer has to do. Once it comes up with the music and folders it "sees" on the mp3 can you still add music/folders?
