    dv camcorders

Hi I am new to digital. i have just bought a panasonic dv camcorder.
reading the instructions in the manual it tells me for every 4 minutes of video i need 1gb of space on hardrive as i say I am new to this so how could i copy 1 hour of footage to a dvd disc. This may sound silly to some but i do not understand.Any help please

This may well be true as DV is usually in AVI format which is, in essence, raw, full-frame footage (video & audio (possibly stereo)), and does take up a lot of space.

However, when you burn to DVD, (using your application of choice) it is done in a compressed format, therefore reducing the file(s) size (TV screens have a lower resolution that PC monitors (and some DV capture resolutions), therefore the compressed video shows little, or no, degradation on playback).
